This is the rating and price for Egyptian Bes Head Amulet, 1994

Description : Late Period, 664-332 BC. A dark blue glazed composition D-section head of Bes with extended tongue, and short feathered headdress, and lug-shaped ears, loop absent. Property of a London gentleman, acquired by his father in the 1970s, thence by descent. See Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p.40. The dwarf-like figure of Bes was regarded as a protective deity who averted the evil eye and helped woman in childbirth, as well as protecting children through to adulthood. His image is found on head rests, beds, mirrors and cosmetic pots, his amulets are most often made of glazed composition, sometimes polychrome. He was a deity for whom there were no temples, but he is depicted in temple sites associated with the divine birth of a god, such as at the Birth House at the temple of Denderah. 5.17 grams, 28mm (1).
