Description : African art. Dogon, Mali. Bambou-toro sculpture. Hardwood with crusty patina. Signs of use. This beautiful Bambou-toro figure embodies the concentrate of all the aesthetic and artistic qualities masterfully expressed by the great classical sculpture of the Dogon. Beautiful for quality of carving, proportion of volumes and for the plastic solutions adopted by the sculptor ( note the whole composition of the face with the square eyes and the harmonious arrangement of the arms). Beautiful also for the surprising simplicity of the only dorsal scarification present (Dr. Berna proposes an interesting interpretation in the expertise sheet accompanying this 'work) and for the crusty patina resulting from the numerous devotional offerings received over time. Beautiful finally for the wear and tear, the wear and tear and the multiple signs of use present, which give clear evidence of the antiquity of this object. Coming from an old collection in Amsterdam and from a French private collection this Bambou-Toro is accompanied by the 'expertise of Dr, Beppe Berna. With base. Cm 5,50 x 21,70 x 6,00.
