Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART, CARVED WOOD PINU STATUE - Gabon. Kneeling female fertility figure perhaps used by the 'Moukouji society to neutralize evil forces. The white facial color of the mask is a symbol for peace, spirits of the dead and the afterlife. The figure wears a carved wood collar and matching girdle dotted with orange seeds, and a woven skirt covering. Condition as seen, skirt is frayed and pieces are missing, seeds are missing from collar and girdle. First quarter 20th century. 22H
