Description : CANAANITE. Late Bronze Age, 1500-1300 BCE. Red carnelian, coral and agate bead necklace. Approximately 20 inches (50 cm) in length, restrung and fitted with a modern clasp, with large carnelian beads in the shape of lotus seeds, with smaller beads of red coral and gray agate interspersed, also, one carnelian Egyptian wadjet eye and one lotus seed bead of rock crystal. See Chronicles of the Land (Israel Museum, 2013), page 57, 22 for a similar necklace composed of identical beads. From the Barakat Biblical Collection, ex Moshe Dayan Collection, in a gold-leaf presentation frame with a card signed M. Dayan, 1971. In addition to his remarkable feats as a soldier and statesman, Moshe Dayan (1915-1981) was an assiduous archeologist and collector of antiquities. His collection of 9,000 antiquities was sold to the Israel Museum for $1 million in 1982.
