Description : This wood carved tribal piece is a decorative Burkina Faso Bobo mask. In many of the villages of Burkina Faso, masks representing bush spirits perform during annual renewal ceremonies, market day celebrations, initiations, burials, and memorial services. Masks, created as a result of encounters between spirits and men, take whatever form the spirit prefers. They can resemble a wild animal or consist of purely abstract forms. They embody supernatural forces that act on behalf of the community. Looks to be in good condition. Measures approximately 49 x 11.75 x 3.25 and total weight is 5 lbs.
