Description : A Grand Tour, late 19th Century AD, bronze lamp on a tall foot and stem, H: 3.5 in (9cm), L: 6 1/4 in (15.9cm), D: 3 3/8 in (8.5cm). A tall handle stems from the back of the removable top of the lamp. Cymation and scrolls decorate the shoulder of the lamp, while the discus depicts a harvest theme around a central goddess, probably Ceres, the goddess of the harvest, carrying grain. In a circle held by the goddess the words 'Annum Novvm Favstvm Felicem MIIIII' are inscribed, roughly translating to 'a happy and prosperous new year MIIII'. Ex Property from the Collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York, New York Mr. Joseph Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interest. Said to have collected in the manner of a 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
