This is the rating and price for Black Walled Ships, 1994

Description : Andrew Johnstone (British, 1933-2015), Black Walled Ships, mixed media on board, 1994. An elegant abstract work by contemporary British artist Andrew Johnstone who created non-objective compositions with themes derived from the ancient world. His style and technique were very much influenced by modern artists including Ben Nicholson, Roger Hilton, and William Scott. Johnstone discusses his intentions for his art, My own work is domestic and small scale. It is for looking at and enjoying in a home environment… just to be there and to feed the spirit and imagination. Balm for the soul, if you like. If a painting of mine does that and, most importantly, goes on doing that, then I am happy: it is a good painting as far as I am concerned. A special piece by this thoughtful artist, custom matted and framed under glass. Size: 10.875 L x 8.25 W (27.6 cm x 21 cm), 22.5 L x 19.375 W (57.2 cm x 49.2 cm) with mat and frame Johnstone was educated at Marlborough College, Strasbourg University, and St. John’s Oxford. In addition, he spent two terms at the Ruskin School of Art. Furthermore, Johnstone served with the Scots Guards in Egypt. He also joined the Foreign Service and was posted to Lebanon, Aden, Oman, Syria, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Ireland. Wherever he was posted during his time with the Foreign Service, Johnstone created paintings and drawings. The British Council sponsored a one-man show in Rawalpindi, and when he was in Ireland, he exhibited in Belfast and the Royal Irish Academy. Upon retirement in 1973, Johnstone moved to West Cornwall with his wife, where he painted until he passed away in 2015. Johnstone's works were regularly exhibited at the Islington Art Fair and the 20/21 British Art Fair. In addition, he had several one-man shows in London and at Cadogan Contemporary gallery. In 1989, a documentary about his life's work was featured on ITV.
