Kpliè Kpliè masks were used during the N'Guli rites, during the sowing and harvest parties and for the funerals of important people, representing the spirit of the deceased ancestors. How much more abstract and synthetic the African art has managed to produce, these masks composed of a flat disk with a rectangular mouth, two drip eyes usually perforated to allow the dancer to see, and surmounted by two horns that recall the buffalo, could be produced in different sizes and some reached considerable dimensions. In our case this beautiful Kpeliè Kpeliè mask is of medium small size, often used and repainted several times, last of which with industrial paints, before participating in the blood rites, was probably restored in situ in the top part of the right horn, where there is also a nail and certainly restored in the West in a homely manner given the abundant use of vinyl glues in the frame below the face. note the presence of the branch positioned transversely to the back with which the dancer kept the mask biting it..
