Description : [ Autographs ] (ARTISTS.) Lot of seven pieces of 19th-century correspondence from a variety of artists: (1882) Sir Seymour Haden ( President of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers), (1833) C.R. Leslie portrait painter, (1882) James S. Miller, (1810) Peter Maverick, Thomas Cole (no date), and a Mr. Alexander (no date). The principal interest in these letters--ranging in date from September 24, 1810 to December 16, 1882--is to collect the intimate, and sometimes formal, style of conversation in which these artists conducted their professional and personal affairs. (Maverick forwards to a bookseller a set of maps on 'Palestine - Ancient World and Egypt', Sir Haden scrawls two notes on 'The Chicago Club' stationery, and Miller humbly accepts an offer to be included in a history of 19th century artists.) The condition of the letters ranges from Very Fine to Extremely Fine, and in size from 2.25in x 8in to 9.5in x 8in. Most are toned, with some minor soiling, but all are quite legible and very intriguing. (7 pieces)
