Description : This fabulous piece is a standing female figure sculpted from wood by the Attye tribe in Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Africa, and dates to the early to mid 20th century. The figure features an elaborate hair style, with a blend of a unique ''Lagoon'' appearance with Baule artistry. Statues such as this are used by healers to cure illness and disease as well as to convey messages to the spirit world.Provenance:These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum.This is an excellent piece that would be perfect for your collection!Piece has some minor cracking to the wood, with a good patina from use and age. Overall in average condition.Measures approximately 22.5 x 6.5 with a total weight of 7 lbs.
