Description : This fabulous piece is a sitting male figure sculpted from wood by the Attye tribe in Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana, Africa, and dates to the early to mid 20th century. The figure features an elaborate hair style, with a blend of a unique ''Lagoon'' appearance with Baule artistry. Statues such as this are used by healers to cure illness and disease as well as to convey messages to the spirit world. Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum. Piece is in good condition for its age, showing signs of use with a very nice patina. Some moderate wear to the base with cracking and missing pieces of wood. Measures approximately 20 x 6 x 5 with a total weight of 5 lbs.
