Description : Central Africa, Cameroon, Kirdi peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A heavy throwing knife known as a mafa (also matakam) with a hand hammered iron body that terminates in a thick, rattan-wrapped handleand an integral suspension loop pommel. The blade head consists of two hemispherical curves that terminate in a blunt point, a narrow barb protruding from the exterior, and a hammered iron ring loop attached to thelower curve. Dozens of incised hash marks adorn both sides of the blade and give it a unique personalized presentation. In good condition with wear commensurate with age.RH50209
