Description : ANCIENT NEAR EAST. Persian period, circa 586-333 BCE. Group of three perfume alabastrons. Each carved from a single piece of white alabaster and used as containers for perfumes or unguents. Sizes are 6 inches (15.2 cm), 5 inches (12.7 cm), and just under 4 inches (10 cm) in length, the first two of elongated ovoid form, the last somewhat more bulbous with a wide, flaring mouth. Minor surfaces losses, otherwise intact. Each with custom Lucite stand. From the Hadji Baba Museum Collection, Old City Jerusalem, IAA Export #531039. Alabaster vessels originated in Egypt and quickly spread throughout the Mediterranean world, becoming popular luxury items in Greece and Persia.
