Description : Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 22nd Dynasty, ca. 943 to 720 BCE. A hand-built faience ushabti depicting a standing male figure adorned with green glaze in hues of olive and sage. The mummiform figure holds a pair of black-painted hoes in crossed arms for sowing the fields of Osiris in the afterlife and dons a broad, black seed bag behind both shoulders. The raised head bears almond-shaped eyes with elongated exterior canthi, a wide nose above full lips, a black-painted 'seshed' fillet wrapped around the forehead, and a tripartite wig with thick lappets draped atop the shoulders. An enclosed column of hieroglyphs in front of the legs reads, The prophet of Amun, Ankhefdjehuty. Size: 1.8 W x 5.5 H (4.6 cm x 14 cm), 5.9 H (15 cm) on included custom stand. Condition report : Figure is adhered to display stand and cannot be removed. Small repairs to several areas of verso, with chipping and light adhesive residue along break lines. Fading to original pigment on body and hieroglyphs, with softening to some facial details, light encrustations, and a few small excisions on head and feet. Faint, slightly legible remains of hieroglyphs on obverse. Old inventory number '306' written in white ink behind ankles.
