Dewing 2431, SNG von Aulock 2875, Boston MFA 2073. About Very Fine. (3,000-4,000) Kroisos (or Croesus), of proverbial wealth, was the last king of Lydia. The looming threat of Persia sent Kroisos to seek aid from Greece and Egypt. But the Persian king Cyrus's prescience proved better than the Lydian's, and the Persians captured Sardis, overthrowing Kroisos. From there, Kroisos' skein is woven into legend. Casting himself on a burning pyre, he is miraculously saved by Apollo and taken to the land of the Hyperboreans. In another telling, he becomes the friend and counselor of Cyrus.
