Description : David Roberts (Scottish 1796-1864) hand colored lithograph of the ancient city of Thebes, Egypt. Framed and matted under glass. Titled Medinet Abou Thebes and dated Dec. 8th, 1838 to the lower left hand corner. Signed by the artist and lithographer to the lower right hand corner. Frame measures 19 in height by 25 in width with the sight image measuring 12-1/2 in height by 19 in width. All measurements are approximate. David Roberts (Scottish, 1796-1864) was a Scottish painter. He is especially known for a prolific series of detailed lithograph prints of Egypt and the Near East that he produced from sketches he made during long tours of the region (1838–1840). These and his large oil paintings of similar subjects made him a prominent Orientalist painter. He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1841.
