Description : An interesting Roman ceramic lamp, late 1st - early 2nd Century AD, with shallow body and curved nozzle tip. Between the filling-hole area and the nozzle is a notched step, narrow vertical handle at rear, on flattened bottom, COPRES. L: 3 1/8 (7.9 cm). Handle repaired at top, two antique collection label. Cf. Mercando, p. 426, fig. 418 for another example. Ex property from the collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests. Said to have collected in the manner of an 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
