Description : An Egyptian Red-Ware molded flask, Ptolemaic, 2nd - 1st Century BC, with single closed handle at side of narrow neck. The vessel is decorated on each side with a central band of over-lapping petals and a central figure of Harpokrates, double ridges above and below, a crown consisting of a solar disk, bull's horns and plumes on the shoulder, lotus petals around the foot. H: 6 1/8 in (15.6 cm). Intact, earthen deposits. An interesting vessel which served a votive purpose much like the 'pilgrim's flask'. Cf. Bailey, Ptolemaic and Roman Terracottas from Egypt in the BM, (London, 2008), p. 167, no. 365 for a similar example. Ex German private collection.
