Description : An Egyptian painted wood and gilt falcon Late Period, after 600 B.C. Probably representing the falcon god, Sodpu, from the lid of a shabti box, the body decorated in crimson and black slip, the face and chest gilded, wearing a beaded collar with counterpoise pendant at the back with black horizontal bands across the chest, with an old collection label on the base which reads 'provenant de la succession du Marquis de Laborde', 5.5in. (14cm.) high E1200-1500 Footnote: Provenance: Ex collection Marquis de Laborde (1807-1869), a French explorer, archaeologist, ambassador to Rome under Chateaubriand, politician and author of several books realting to art and exploration, in 1847 he was appointed Curator of Antiquities at the Louvre in Paris. Accompanied by a French passport.
