Description : Middle Kingdom, Late Dynasty XII, 1878-1783 B.C. Originally from a seated figure, depicted wearing a pleated kilt with a wide belt, the well-modelled body with a broad back and rounded shoulders, the arms at his sides, the elbows bent, the fore-arms projecting forward, the nipples in relief, the shoulder length wig with pointed lappets and incised striations radiating from the crown of the head, with prominent ears, a severe mouth and forward jutting jaw in the style of Amenemhat III and his successors, the convex eyes tapering at the ends, the modelled brows enhanced by incised grooves 101/2 inches (26.7 cm) high PROVENANCE Khawam Brothers Antiquities and Islamic Art, Sotheby's New York, 12 June 1993, lot 22.
