Description : AN EGYPTIAN GILT WOOD FALCON-HEADED COFFIN LATE PERIOD, 26TH-30TH DYNASTY, 664-343 B.C. Painted in polychromy over gesso, the lid and box of the mummiform falcon in black, the integral plinth now green with traces of blue, the tripartite headcloth blue, traces of the linear broad collar and the outlines of three deities along the proper left side of the lid in gold pigment, the face gilt with the eyes and beak black, the markings and details of the face incised 19¾ in. (50.2 cm.) high
