Description : seated, his feet resting on a trapesoidal base, wearing a closely-fitted cap and long pleated kilt, with multiple-stranded collar, an open scroll on his knees originally inscribed with his name, 10.8 cm. (4 1/4 in.) Provenance: The late John F.Keene Esq. Sotheby's, London, Antiquities Sale, 14th May 1973, lot 82 Imhotep was the deified architect of the Step Pyramid at Saqqara and is often represented as a scribe.
