Description : DYNASTY XXX, CIRCA 4TH CENTURY B.C. Carved with three females, each standing with her hands by her side, the central female holding an ankh in her right hand, inscribed (left) for Tadi-Imhotep, daughter of the Temple Administrator of Neith, Nakht-hor-heb, born of Her-Neith and (right) Tadi-Imhotep, daughter of the Temple Administrator of Neith, the Prophet of..., Her-Neith, born of Ta-ihet, with funerary inscription along top and side 11 in. (28 cm.) high PROVENANCE Inherited by the present owner from his father who had acquired it from the artist Max Klarenbach, circa 1900. NOTES PUBLISHED: Description de l'gypte, Paris, 1809-1822, vol. 5, pl. 70, (reprinted, K”ln, 1994, p. 539, pl. 70.) Napoleon's attempt to conquer Egypt in 1798 led to the awakening of interest in 'Egyptology', when over 3000 illustrations of the monuments and antiquities of Egypt were published fron 1809 onwards by France's leading academics and savants under the direction of Vivant Denon. They had accompanied the ill-fated military expedition, working under extreme conditions to record every aspect of Egyptian life, from ancient monuments to ethnography.
