This is the rating and price for An Antique Gold And Ancient Coin Pendant, 1850

Description : AN ANTIQUE GOLD AND ANCIENT COIN PENDANT, ATTRIBUTED TO FORTUNATO PIO CASTELLANI, CIRCA 1850 centering a silver tetradrachm depicting Arsinoe II, with the initial K marked above the head, within a Neoclassical inspired gold frame, length 2 3/4in. Motivated by the archaeological findings unearthed in Italy during that decade, Fortunato Pio Castellani began to create Etruscan style jewelry in the mid 1830’s. His ancient inspired creations were a notable change from the then popular French style jewels which he had been selling successfully for more than two decades. Impassioned, Castellani studied, mastered and revived ancient goldsmithing techniques and used Roman and Etruscan style in his jewelry, which subsequently became fashionable. He was active in the trade of the artifacts, showing great interest in the discovery and preservation of ancient findings, as well as participating in the flourishing cultural and political forum with related interests. The ancient silver coin is a tetradrach of Arsinoe II, Queen of Thrace and Macedonia and, later, Egypt. Arsinoe II appeared in coinage reflecting her power and status and undoubtedly Castellani felt it important to incorporate this artifact into one of his contemporary jewels.
