This is the rating and price for Alabaster Vase, 1550

Description : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom / Third Intermediate Period, 1550 to 712 BCE. A large, almost translucent alabaster vase with a round base, a flared, tall body, and a wide, flat rim. The alabaster used is banded with vertical inclusions of darker streaks, representing small amounts of iron in the deposits that formed this stone. This vessel was probably made to be put into a tomb in order to accompany the deceased throughout eternity. Size: 5.2 W x 8.95 H (13.2 cm x 22.7 cm) Alabaster, which is a form of gypsum or calcite, soft to carve and smooth, was quarried along the length of the Nile, from Giza to just south of Luxor, and the Egyptians made its carved forms famous throughout the ancient world. A thousand years later, the Greeks made vessels like this out of pottery and painted them white in imitation of the beautiful stone. On this example, as you examine the interior, you can see the grooves left behind from carving and smoothing it into its current form.
