Description : Provided for your consideration in this lot is a early 1900's Yoruba peoples chiefs processional helmet, originating from Nigeria. The helmet has a pliable core, wrapped in trade cloth, and adorned with trade seed & pony beads. The Yoruba people remain extremely traditional - they create family names, works of art, and symbolic pieces to convey philosophical and religious connotations. This helmet in particular shows four Yoruba tribesman traveling with the fifth companion on the back of a donkey. The helmet also depicts a face of black trade seed beads, as well as a lizard on each side. The helmet is in good condition overall. The piece measures approximately 25 tall, and 9 5/8 wide, and 12 deep.
