Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART, CARVED WOOD PENDE GRAIN DOOR - (Democratic Republic of the Congo) The Pende are mainly farmers who produce grain crops, hence the need for granary doors. Used to seal a granary, this door has a carved face or amulet whose purpose is to ward off an invader or malevolent spirit. The background is decorated in a triangular pattern. Unmarked. Condition good, some paint loss. Early 20th century. 10H x 9W
