Description : A Rare Tiv Kwagh-Hir marionette: A very uncommon carved wooden sculpture with western style shorts and a red painted surface. This marionette type sculpture likely played a part in the Tiv peoples Kwagh-Hir festivals, where marionettes and masks were worn. It is a dramatic public performance telling moral stories of past and current events, and incorporates puppetry, masquerading, poetry, music, dance. This well weathered puppet no longer has its articulated arms. Tiv peoples, Nigeria, Africa. Size: 22'' x 5.5'' x 4'' (56 x 14 x 10 cm).
