Description : Chokwe Zaire helmet mask with rows of braided hair piled on the helmet head and arranged in three braids at the sides, above a 4 tiered stepped section with various designs. These hairstyle used by women in the region at the beginning of the twentieth century. Chokwe mask hand carved out of solid wood, bear distinctive stylistic elements. The mask represent human head and have slit eyes, sharp noses and broad lips with pigment paint. Condition good with two small dings to nose and top tier above forehead.
