This is the rating and price for A Very Fine And Rare Four-Headed Helmet Mask
Description : Painted in alternating black and white pigment throughout. Fine aged black, white and orange patina. Hollowed four-sided form, each face carved with open oval mouth beneath lozenge-shaped eyes, pointed, ridged noses and cap-like headdresses. The faces with raised scarification marks. One mask pierced through to enable the wearer to see. H. 41 cm. Whilst helmet masks featuring two or more faces are known to be worn in areas such as Congo (Fang) or Gabon (Kwele), masks of this type are mainly associated with East Nigeria and Cameroon. Such masks are intended to give the wearer an androgynous quality, with the black and white Colours representing male and female respectively. Furthermore, the two Colours also represent life and death and reincarnation. The Multiple faces are also intended to illustrate that the wearer can see into the past as well as the future.
