Literature : In John Bryson's book, The Private World of Katharine Hepburn, she is pictured seated in this chair on p. 39. The caption reads: In the dining room [of Fenwick] she is surrounded by a museum of artifacts she brought back from a jungle location. Miss Hepburn is quoted: Treasures from AFRICAN QUEEN. I'm sitting on a chief's chair. See the mask, the oar, the stool (p.39).Miss Hepburn mentions the present lot in her autobiography Me: My African chair was next to the cupboard... (p.398).
Notes : Katharine Hepburn purchased this chair and the following three lots while in Africa filming The African Queen.
