With two spiral columns supporting an arching pediment with palmette acroteria, framing a horse and rider in profile to the right, their heads turned frontal, the horse with a long mane and bulging eyes, wearing a bridle attached to reins held in the rider's left hand, the bearded rider with a club in his right hand, wearing a short tunic and ankle boots, his mantle billowing behind 173/4 in. (45.1 cm) high PROVENANCE Classical, Egyptian, Western Asiatic, British and Celtic Antiquities, Ancient Jewellery, African, Pre-Columbian, North American Indian, Melanesian, Polynesian, and Australian Art, Christie's London, 11 July 1973, lot 171 NOTES Possibly representing the Thracian Horseman.
