This is the rating and price for A PREDYNASTIC TERRACOTTA HIPPOPOTAMUS

Description : circa late 4th millennium b.c. Hand modeled with a massive, stylized body and characteristic snout, standing erect on its four legs on an integral sledge base 6 in. (15.2 cm.) long NOTES The up-turned front end of the base indicates that a sledge is intended, suggesting the image is a depiction of a deity. Kozloff, in her description of a similar example in the Leo Mildenberg Collection, suggests that the red slip on the hippo makes it "an embodiment of the nefarious god Seth." For the Mildenberg hippo see no. 116 in Mottahedeh, ed., Out of Noah's Ark. For another hippo on a sledge base see no. 6 in Smith, Ancient Egypt as Represented in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. This lot is accompanied by a Thermoluminescence certificate.
