Description : A group of 3 ancient oil lamps. The first a Roman discus lamp, c. 1st Century AD, with a central rosette design within a concave disk and oval shaped with a loop handle, L: 9.7 cm, D: 7.2 cm. The second a Syro-Palestinian type, c. 7th-8th Century AD, with raised decoration around the shoulder and the nozzle black from being burnt, L: 8.5 cm, D: 6.5 cm. The third a Roman type, c. 1st-4th Century AD, with deep ovules decorating the shoulder, L:8.3 cm, D:6.6 cm. 2 with clear maker's marks and the third a worn down mark. Ex property from the collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests. Said to have collected in the manner of an 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
