Description : A COCO DE MER NUT AND CARVED VESSELS 19th century and later The polished coco de mer nut, 28cm high, together with a mounted coconut shell on turned base and with silver mounted rim, an Indian silver mounted carved coconut shell, stamped ORR silver, on three elephant supports and the sides carved with deities, a coconut shell, chip carved with bands of stars, and a Celonese ebony bowl stand, formed as three mythological beasts, together with a silver-mounted earthenware vase, the pottery vase probably North African, with incised fluted and banded decoration, with silver mounted flared foot, height 30cm. Condition report : Coco de Mer, polished all over but in very good visual order, however a clean sawn join exists encircling the item and tiny degree of filler seen at the join line. Goblet, in good general visual order throughout. Coconut on elephants, damage and minor loss to shell at join to support below. Metal spring catch visible to interior to hold liner in place. Original liner. Chip carved shell, in good general visual order. Wood stand, glued repairs to naturally loosening joints below. One beast with chipped area to lower jaw. The same beast is lacking most of paw. Another with a restored lower leg. The third lacking tongue. Vase, in good general visual order throughout but foot mount distorted and reapplied with putty to base area. Very minor surface blemishes/ marks to silver. Silver unmarked.
