Description : A Bronze Figure of the God Ptah with Worshippers, 3rd Intermediate Period, 1075-716 B.C., the chief god of Memphis standing on a stepped pedestal with two worshippers kneeling before him, the god enveloped in a close-fitting shroud, holding a scepter combining the ankh, was, and djed, symbols of life and stability, and wearing a broad beaded collar with tassel falling behind, short wavy beard, beard-straps, and gold cap, the collar and other details inlaid with gold wire, his idealized face with full lips rounded at the corners, aquiline nose, and large eyes with long eyebrows and cosmetic lines deeply recessed for inlay, the pedestal engraved on three sides of the upper tier with a frieze of ankh and was signs resting on neb signs, and on the beveled front with the confronted kneeling figures of the Upper and Lower Egyptian genii of abundance holding offerings on trays before them, their heads crowned by Nilotic flora, the worshipper kneeling on the lower tier wearing a pleated kilt and close-fitting cap and holding a libation vessel on his lap, the worshipper on the upper tier, perhaps his son, kneeling and holding an offering table molded in relief with loaves of bread and a libation vessel.
