Description : Europe, Italy, Venice, found in western Africa, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. An enticing set of 4 Venetian glass trade bead strands that can be restrung into attractive and wearable necklaces. Two of the strands are comprised of petite seed-form beads with vibrant hues of red, white, and blue. One strand features similarly sized beads with softer hues, and the last strand bears larger beads with zigzagging, radiating, and ovoid bands of red on the light blue bead bodies. Trade beads played a major role in the age of European exploration and colonization, serving as currency on multiple continents. Size (longest strand): 30.5 L (77.5 cm), (display case): 12.25 L x 8.25 W (31.1 cm x 21 cm) Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection, ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. Condition report : Beads are from the stated period and are strung on modern stringing, not intended for wear as necklaces as-is but can be restrung into more attractive compositions. Minor abrasions and nicks to some beads, otherwise intact and very good. Great remains of red, white, and blue coloration. All are displayed within a modern Riker case.
