- He had produced the stained-glass designs of the 'Fourteen Stations of the Cross' in Munich earlier in the year
- Jellings was a founder member of the Mbari Club, Ibadan, where he was employed by the Nigerian Tobacco Company
- He worked in Nigeria from 1958-66 and knew the artist well
