Anmerkung : Banele Khoza (b. 1994) is an artist whose practice is a visual diary of personal experiences. Khoza’s paintings stand on the threshold between reduction and romanticism. In a combination of reduction, romance, and irony, Khoza’s work addresses questions of identity, masculinity and of a young generation of creatives living and working in South Africa. I have never told anyone about my first was developed in a single sitting where ink was dropped onto a wet canvas and guided to create the distinctive marks and shapes that recur in Khoza’s practice. Much of Banele Khoza’s process has been developed from the Rorschach inkblot method, and his diptych is reflective of emotions that aren't immediately on the surface and also a peek into the subconscious mind. The paintings are marked by their expressive brushstroke and the vivid colours, generating a strong dynamic and vitality, they elude the rigidity of the formal frame. The bright and pastel colours create a romantic and dreamlike quality running as a theme through the works, regardless of their actual content.
