Anmerkung :
Condition_report : Provenance: The Late Mrs Vivien Gough-Cooper Collection The Late Mrs Vivien Gough-Cooper's Collection represents a unique insight into the extraordinary world of Richard Demarco. Mrs Vivien Gough-Cooper was a director of the Richard Demarco Gallery during the 1960s and she championed Demarco's artistic vision in those formative early years. Their shared love of the theatre - Mrs Gough-Cooper had been involved in dramatics and remained a devotee all her life - and their rejection of the traditional entrenched separation of different forms of art, led to a rich and fruitful partnership, as well as an enduring friendship. Not only did Mrs Gough-Cooper accompany Demarco abroad to seek out new artists to bring to Scotland, but she would frequently entertain them at her country house in Farningham, where she housed her burgeoning art collection. It was during her time as a Director of the Richard Demarco Gallery that Mrs Gough-Cooper started to collect seriously: In the 1960s and early 1970s alone, she purchased works by Patrick Heron, Richard Lin, Michael Tyzack and Cecil King. In Mrs Gough- Cooper's increasingly bold choices, we see in microcosm Scotland awakening to a vision of art and the artist that marked a radical break from its rather staid established art scene. The works of art offered for sale from the Mrs Gough-Cooper Private Collection offer us both a personal portrait of a great visionary and impresario: a glimpse of Demarco from one who knew him well and shared his vision; and a reminder of the innovative role played by the Richard Demarco Gallery in making this period such a seminal moment in Scotland's artistic development.
