Beschreibung : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. Six beautiful gold sheet amulets in the form of flies, as well as a stamped gilt silver cylinder bead. All of the gold for the insects ranges from 56-63% purity (roughly 14-15 karat), and is repousse, folded over at the loop so that they have texture on both sides. Golden flies were given out as military honors, as the ones that formed part of an official's usekh-collar on display in the Egyptian Museum of Cairo (CG 52677). Famously, Queen Ahhotep I was buried with some for her military service.
