Beschreibung : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, 19th to 21st Dynasty, ca. 1292 to 943 BCE. A rare example of a petite scarab pendant carved from lapis lazuli bearing gorgeous, mottled azure and periwinkle hues. The topside depicts classic insectile features such as a narrow head with a frilled clypeus, slender legs tucked beneath the bulky body, and a folded wing carapace that is incised down the middle, a suspension hole is biconically drilled lengthwise through the body. The underside of the pendant bears a single column of inscribed hieroglyphs that read, (The god) Amun is Lord of Thebes.
