Beschreibung : Ancient Egypt, late Predynastic to Early Dynastic Period, ca. 3000 to 2500 BCE. A gorgeous mace head carved from creamy white alabaster with quartzite inclusions. The piriform body has a rounded shoulder which gradually tapers to a drilled base, and the top smooths out to a lightly-rounded profile. Atop the mace head is the depiction of a couchant lion in high relief with extended front paws, back legs folded to one side, and a sinuous tail. Though the head is missing, the size of the body suggests the head would have been quite large. Custom museum-quality display stand included.
