Das ist der Preis für die folgende Bewertung: Omdurman Baggara Doll, mid 20th century

Beschreibung : Additional Information: A wonderful doll with an elongated body and feet, a round head painted in white and the body decorated with multi-media including beads, button, shells, aluminum, package of amulet. The doll is wearing a bark skirt also decorated with all kind of elements. This figure shows similarities with the one published in Esther A. Dagan, AFRICAN DOLLS, fig.74 p. 141 attributed to the Omdurman people of South Sudan. By comparison this one may also come from the same people or from their neighbors including the Baggara , see E. Cameron, Isn't s/he a doll, fig. 98. Such dolls are the representations of women dressed in traditional costumes.Women among these societies are usually adorned with beaded jewelry including necklace, earrings, anklets, armlets, hairpins. rings , so forth, as seen on this doll. Islamic influences can be seen by the number of amulets on this stunning doll. The ritual uses of these dolls are not known. The present , example shows some age and a lot of character and would stand out in any collection. I have examined this piece and agree with the description Niangi Batulukisi, Ph.D.
