Beschreibung : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1479 to 1425 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab of a miniature size that bears sinuous legs, a slender head with a frilled clypeus, and a folded, notched wing carapace, all atop an integral plinth and covered in lustrous grass green glaze, a suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the body. Underneath the insect is an incised cartouche of Pharaoh Thutmose III as well as hieroglyphs depicting a pennant and a heart-and-windpipe.
