Among the Makon, one of the many ethnic groups that populate the Grassland of Cameroon, this type of mask called Akam, was considered very important because worn by the head of the dancers of the court of the king. During the celebrations the chief dancer who wore the mask Akam and led a long procession with different types of masks through the square in front of the royal palace ( Christopher D. Roy, 1991). Worn flat on the head, this large old hardwood carved mask has been embellished in the beard and hair area with a brownish fabric on which geometrically arranged shells have been applied (some missing). Beautiful in size, carving quality, patina, wear and tear and signs of use.. Cm 30,00 x 50,00 x 12,00.
