This is a large wooden carved mask with triangular scale details and alternating colors of paint, particularly on the tail. There is a wooden stand with woven rope handles projecting from the back. Burkina Faso, located in a tropical climate and a harshly-controlled French colony for much of the 20th century, is home to the large ethnic group, the Mossi.
