Small deep bowl called a patella with short rolled foot, collared rim and rounded sides in a stunning cobalt blue glass. Size: 2.875 W x 1.625 H (7.3 cm x 4.1 cm) Glass was first discovered by the ancient Egyptians and archaeologists have found glass beads dating to as early as the third millennium BCE. The Romans produced glass all over their expanded empire with production centers in the Levant, especially Syria and Lebanon, as well as Germany, Egypt, and Rhodes. While a a vessel such as this would have been reserved for the most elite Roman class, even middle-class Romans could afford small vessels such as tear vials and small unguents.
