Catalog Notes: Dan artists and carvers are some of the most talented wood carvers, which can be seen in their mastery of large wooden spoons. The spoons which are used for feasts are known by many names including wake mia and wunkirmian. They range in size from roughly a foot to upwards or two feet or more and can have one or two parallel bowls. The handle of the sppon is always carved. It often relates to the human form.
