Anspach's notes on this work state: 'Skin covered wooden head mask, probably for the leopard society. c. 1911. Ekoi (ejagham), Nigeria' (1974: number 52). See Trowell (1953: plate XI, A.) for the closely related headdress in the collection of the British Museum.
